WHAT: "This is 29 Acacia Road and this is Eric, a schoolboy who leads an amazing double-life for when Eric eats a banana an amazing transformation occurs. Eric is Bananaman, ever alert for the call to action." Voiced by the cast of The Goodies, this cartoon followed the adventures of Eric and his slow-witted alter-ego Bananaman as they fought all manner of super-villain. These villains had a nasty habit of kidnapping or endangering local news anchor (and apple of Eric's eye) Fiona. Bananaman also had a trusty ally in the form of a crow voiced by Bill Oddie.
WHEN: The series aired on the ABC during the late '80s.WHY: A short show with a complete story, it often satirised the superhero genre as well as employing visual gag techniques quite reminiscent of The Goodies.CHANCE OF REVIVAL: The concept seems a little dated but could be used to encourage healthier eating habits among children. Episodes can be found on YouTube and websites dedicated to cartoons.
