JOSH Morgan went close to recording a triple double in leading the Newcastle Hunters to a confidence-boosting 107-96 win over the Parramatta Wildcats in their Waratah Australian Basketball League match at Broadmeadow on Saturday night.

Morgan drained 26 points to go with eight assists and nine rebounds in a non-stop performance.

Centre Jono Howe was also inspirational, scoring a team-high 30-points and ripping down 18 rebounds.

The Hunters controlled the match from the tip-off and led 55-39 at half-time.

"We pretty much ran them off their feet," Hunter coach Todd Harvey said.

"Joey [Morgan] led the way for us and Jono did a power of work inside.

"It was a big win for us and a springboard into a crucial couple of weeks."

The Hunters women beat Parramatta by 28.
