FORMER Victorian apprentice Alison Threadwell landed her first double at Broadmeadow on Saturday since moving to Newcastle.
Threadwell, who had her indentures transferred to champion Broadmeadow trainer Paul Perry 12 months ago, was successful aboard Tullamarine and Zoran's Dream, which are both trained by her master. Both winning rides drew praise from stable foreman Nathan Perry, deputising for his father, who was watching his runners race at Rosehill on Saturday."I have ridden doubles before when I was in Victoria, but this is my first double from about 100 rides since I have been up here," Threadwell said. She produced a bold frontrunning ride on Tullamarine, which was placed in a listed three-year-old race at Flemington during the 2006 Melbourne Spring Carnival.Nathan Perry said his father had no worries about backing Tullamarine up after the gelding was ninth at Wyong on Wednesday. The four-year-old vindicated his trainer's judgement when he scored by 13/4 lengths in the Rating 80 Handicap (1400 metres)."He could not get into the race at Wyong because of the early speed, but when he pulled up so well Dad decided that he would run him again today," Perry said."But he decided to give Alison the ride not only because she has won on him before, but also because the gelding does travel so well for her."But it was Threadwell's ride aboard Zoran's Dream, which came from barrier 14 to win the Rating 65 Handicap (1400m) by 11/2 lengths, that really had the junior Perry singing her praises."Gee, that was a good ride, especially the way she got him over from his wide gate," he said.He said it was likely that his father would now look for a suitable race in town for Zoran's Dream, which recorded his fourth win from nine starts on Saturday."He has always shown us plenty," Perry said. "His first run was a bottler and he has just kept improving from there." Perry saddled up a treble for his father at the meeting as Worthing won the Rating 65 Handicap (900m) by three-quarters of a length."Dad has a bit of an opinion of this bloke and reckons he can make it in town," Perry said. "He won his maiden on debut at Kembla, and this is his second win from four starts."The win by Worthing completed a winning double for dynamic Broadmeadow jockey Allan Robinson, who in the previous race had brought Aqua Blessing, which is trained at Gosford by Terry Evans, from a distant last approaching the home turn with a rails run to win the Rating 70 Handicap (1850m) by a neck.Stewards suspended jockey Nathan Cumberland after finding him guilty of failing to ride Konan right to the line in the Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (900 metres).Konan finished second only beaten a short head by War On Everything.
